From Clay to Fabric...

2015. detail from Cow Parsley Platter             20150611_110343

The hand carved blocks I use to imprint the clay have doubled up as fabric printing blocks, and because I often leave the imprint of the canvas from the slab-roller evident in the clay, it only seems natural that my work evolves into textile design.

I have chosen a beautiful natural linen with flecks and imperfections that resemble the stoneware body of my ceramics. It is important to me that the weave of the linen is seen through the printed ink so that nothing is hidden and the beauty of the materials are evident.

And here are my first cushions... 60 x 60 cm, hand block printed, linen, zip fastened, stuffed and eco certified... phew. Hope you like them.

It's very exciting to watch your foray into fabric. Such a natural move, and your motifs work so well in both clay and textiles. Magic things are happening already and I can't wait to see more, both on Facebook and your new blog. Good luck, you deserve to succeed.
